Sequins for the New Year

There’s nothing like ringing in the New Year without a bit of sequins in your life, right? I love a sequin look, because who doesn’t love standing out in a sea of people… well on New Year’s (depending on where you’re celebrating) you’ll probably fit right in with the crowd. Although I do love a full sequin ensemble, I realize it’s not for everyone but I still want to help you bring a little sparkle to your evening. Below I’ve put together (3) options which incorporate sequins in a non-overpowering way.

New Year’s Eve Look 1: Party Girl in Pink

This look is for anyone who has a party to attend and wants to be a bit glamorous. I’ve had my eye on this pink sequin top for a while and finally it went on sale (WIN!), except now it’s sold out 😦 although I did link a similar option below. I love the bell sleeves which add a different factor to this piece and the v-neck cut provides the option for a dainty necklace to be paired with this top. Personally I like to stick with statement earrings, which I’ve linked the ones I’m wearing down below.

Can we talk about this tulle skirt for a moment? I love the glam of a tulle skirt but I prefer a more simple cut of tulle than all the fluffiness of some I’ve seen online (you know what I mean?). To me, J. Crew hit the money on this piece as the multi layers of tulle can either lay completely flat or you can play around with it to add more “fluff.” Definitely a quality piece which I’ve already wore a couple times this season.

New Year’s Eve Look 2: Cozy Gal in Joggers

This look is for anyone who is staying home this year or throwing a house party. This outfit is exactly what it’s titled, COZY! These joggers are unexpectedly so comfortable yet so fun and sparkly, which don’t always go hand in hand. They are definitely a standout piece that I’m positive you will get multiple uses out of.

I paired these sparkly pants with a cozy cream colored sweater. You can pair these pants with any sweater or cozy top but I think it’s best to keep it as neutral as possible so that the pants can shine! I kind of have an obsession with white sweaters (every one is different, right?), so for me it was super easy to find a pairing option. And how about these mules? I snagged them at Saks Off 5th last Fall and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped by someone asking where they can get a pair. Unfortunately, this exact option is no longer available, but I linked similar options below.

Outfit Details: Line & Dot Sweater (old, similar here, here & here), Anthropologie Joggers, Dolce Vita Mules (old, similar here & here), Maroon Purse, Earrings (vintage, similar here)

New Year’s Eve Look 3: City Chic in Rose Gold

VA VA VOOM! This outfit is perfect for the girl heading to a party in the city. I bought this rose gold skirt from J.Crew in the Fall and it sold out FAST, as you can probably guess why. Thankfully, there are plenty of similar options out there and I’ve linked some down below. It’s the perfect length, both classy and sexy. I paired it with this black ruffled off shoulder top that complements so well in color contrast and definitely adds a wow factor.

For the city chic, you’ll probably be doing a lot of walking. So I paired this outfit with boots instead of heels for that reason. I know, pain is beauty but really, who wants to be counting down the minutes until it’s time to head home so you can take off your shoes? The correct answer is NO ONE! So heeled boots are that perfect option for comfort and sexy.

Outfit Details: Leith Top (sold out, similar here, here, & here) J. Crew Skirt (sold out, similar here & here), Brian Atwood Boots (old, similar here & here), Maroon Purse, Earrings (similar here)

Here’s to a splendid, sparkly & glamorous last day of 2017, and may 2018 bring you much happiness and many blessings! Happy New Years, cheers friends!

Holiday Looks

The holidays are my favorite time of year and I love the festive looks that come with the season. To me, dressing up for the holidays is so fun… now if only I had more parties to attend. I love getting glam and showing a little holiday spirit. Who doesn’t want a little more “merry” in their life this time of the year? Below I’ve put together 3 outfits for the holidays that might inspire an outfit for yourself or give you an idea to put together some pieces that you already own.

Holiday Look 1: Wrapped in Red ft. Leopard

Who doesn’t love a red ensemble for the holidays? I love this 2-piece lace top and bottom or a red jumpsuit. Some may find it overwhelming or out of their comfort to wear all red, but it makes such an elegant statement this time of the year. So I dare you to try!

Leopard is a print that is very versatile, basically your understated staple piece because it pairs with more items in your closet than you think. I think leopard print pairs very well with red, and this coat definitely adds a glamour factor to the whole outfit.

Holiday Look 2: Crushing in Blue Velvet

I’ve always thought that velvet is a key ensemble for the holidays, whether it be an accent piece, a pair of shoes, a coat, or in this case a dress. Luckily, velvet is very on trend this year so just about every store has a velvet option for every buyer’s taste. This blue velvet dress has been in my closet for 7 years now. My mom got it for me for Christmas and I don’t think I’ll ever let it go. Alright, maybe one day I’ll part with it, but for now it holds a lovely place in my heart.

Along with my velvet dress, I decided to pair this outfit with these darling, blushing pumps, pun intended. One of my favorite bloggers, Gal Meets Glam, had posted an outfit with similar shoes by designer Gianvito Rossi (linked below) last year that I fell in love with except they much exceeded the price I was willing to pay. So when I spotted these Ann Taylor ones this season, I knew they needed to be in my closet and I scored them at 50% off!! Let’s just say I most definitely will get my use out of them since they are somewhat neutral and can be paired with a lot of outfits.

Holiday Look 3: Blazing in Tartan

Okay, who doesn’t love a good blazer, am I right? I snagged this baby from a vintage store in Paris. Sometimes the best pieces you’ll buy aren’t always new, a good reminder to be commercially conscious and that it’s quite alright to shop used items. This tartan blazer is definitely a statement piece for the holidays, but pairs well when you keep this rest of your outfit simple. I paired the blazer with a crisp white button down blouse (staple piece), and black lace pants to add a bit of texture to the whole outfit.

I love a good hair bow, and the one pictured below definitely caught my eye. I got it off of Etsy, so there are no others available but I’ve linked a similar one down below. I love the velvet of it and how it pairs well with the velvet collar detail on my blazer. I also continued the velvet theme with my clutch which is also vintage from an independent seller on Etsy.

Hopefully you bring a bit a glam and festivity to wherever you end up this Holiday and inspire others to do the same! Happy Holidays to all of you 🙂

Museum of Ice Cream

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting the Museum of Ice Cream in Downtown Los Angeles. I brought a friend along with me and we made our way through each exhibition, every room having its own theme centered around one aspect that contributes to the joy and excitement of ice cream. As you enter each room you are presented with a treat that relates to the room while you observe and appreciate every artistic detail. Admission is exclusive and tickets sell out fast. With locations already in Los Angeles, San Francisco & Miami, I’m sure there is great potential to expand further with the attention the museum is getting. To find out when the next slew of tickets will be available for your closest location, you can head to their website for more information or subscribe to their mailing list.

Outfit: Shirt (sold out, similar here, here & here), Skirt (Banana Republic), Shoes (old, similar here, here & here), Bag (Matt & Nat, similar here, here & here)

Season of Giving

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, we transition out of the season of giving thanks into the season of giving back. If you have phone or computer access to read this post, you already have so much to be thankful for. It’s very easy to take for granted all the things a lot of us are blessed to have in our lives until one day it might be gone. Because we have so much to be thankful for it’s good to give back to others who may be less fortunate, especially this time of the year.

A couple years back my mom and I decided to make homemade wreaths for all of her close cousins. Not only was it a fun and creative project but it meant so much to all her cousins. Now as each holiday season passes and we visit with family, my mom is filled with so much joy to see her family putting their gifts to use. Doing something like this project is not only thoughtful but every season that comes around you’re reminded of the memories and the sentiment of the gift.

So to help you get creative about how you can give back this holiday season, I’ve rounded out 15 ideas of ways you can give back this holiday season:

  1. Volunteer at a food shelter
  2. Contact a local/children’s hospital and see how you can volunteer. Example: Read stories or bring a box of toys to donate.
  3. Collect cans of food and donate them to a food bank
  4. Pay for the order of a random person. Example: Coffee or fast food order of the person behind you.
  5. Bake some holiday treats and share the sweet merriment with your friends or neighbors
  6. Clean out your closet and donate unwanted items to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a local donation center
  7. Create a gift for loved ones that exceeds monetary value. Example: Have a beautiful photo framed and send it as a gift to someone special.
  8. Research local blood drives occurring in your area to donate blood
  9. Write a note or send an email to someone who has positively impacted your life
  10. Leave a note of cheer on someone’s windshield
  11. Inquire with your church, workplace, gym about opportunities for a giving tree or sponsoring a family in need for the holidays
  12. Give an unexpected generous tip to make someone’s day
  13. Call a friend you haven’t talked to all year
  14. Research charities or foundations you may be passionate about and make a donation
  15. Simple – smile at a stranger 🙂

Hopefully you can find some time this holiday season to take advantage of some of these ideas to give back, and not just to your community but also to the people in your daily life. Let me know in the comments how you plan to give back this holiday season. Happy Holidays all!!

Welcome To My Blog

Well, I finally did it. I finally got my act together and created this lovely website that I am so excited to share with my friends, followers and future readers!

A Little About Me

For those of you that don’t know me personally, my name is Lauren (in case that wasn’t obvious), I’m 25 years old and reside in Orange County, California. Growing up I moved around quite a bit (no, I’m not a military brat), but grew up for the most part in Colorado. To this day I still consider Colorado home. I was pretty athletic growing up, involved in a variety of sports, but the thing that kept me grounded was soccer and in turn it paid my way through college. I attended the University at Buffalo in New York where I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering. I moved out to California straight after college and have been living in this beautiful state ever since working as an engineer for a company in the town of Orange.

Why I Created a Blog

I realize the blogging world is very populated and especially saturated in the life and style category, but I thought this was the perfect outlet to express my passions. I often found myself asking “why not me?” Why can’t I learn how to create a website and be technologically savvy? And the answer is I can and I will. Although this platform will allow me to share content with my readers, I’m also looking forward to challenging myself in what I would consider unknown territory. I’ve always had a passion for creativity, a joy for being in the kitchen, and a love for fashion. Creating this outlet for inspiration has been an idea of mine for a while and I’m really thrilled to finally test the waters and share my life with y’all.

Behind The Name

Lauren Con Amore originated from two concepts; my belief that everything you do in life should be done with love in addition to my love for all things Italian. Growing up with Italian roots and family, I admired the culture, the food (obviously, who doesn’t love Italian food?), and the all around love for everything they do. It wasn’t until 2014 where I had the opportunity to visit the motherland and I fell in love with my roots even more. Although I have a few sources of inspiration for my lifestyle, I’m inspired by the simplicity of the Italians which carries over to my style and fashion.

What To Expect

My goal is to bring a little love to your life, and no not the romantic kind, the inspiring kind. Maybe my style will inspire you to try a new look. Maybe my recipes will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone in the kitchen. Maybe my travel adventures will inspire you to explore more or take that trip you’ve always dreamed of. I’m an open book so I’m always here for advice or questions, but I’ll be sharing what I do know and my experiences. Starting out, I’ll be posting once a week covering topics from the subject matters of lifestyle, fashion and travel, with a primary focus on style and fashion.
